Product Information

Fine Art Photographic Print, Matting and Framing Quality

The only way to ensure complete end-to-end quality from the capture of the fine art photograph to the final giclee art print – is through the hands-on craftsmanship of Duane Lawson. Duane produces all of his photographic art prints, himself, using museum grade archival pigments and paper. Arete' Art currently offers all fine art nature and contemporary photographs in a variety of sizes to complement any space. Fine Art Photograph mat and mount board, tapes, and glazing are all museum grade. This is fine art photography that can be handed down to another generation and displayed proudly. All fine art photographs are individually numbered and signed on the photograph and outer mat and come with a certificate of authenticity.

Fine Art Photography Print Matting and Framing Choices

Arete' Art offers two fine art photograph matting choices and five framing choices to offer you flexibility in the look desired for your photographic wall art. Classic white or designer color highlighted matting is available. The hard wood frames are chosen for their clean beautiful look and ability to compliment the fine art photography prints and matting. These options are easy to see and select using either the fine art photograph “mat and frame details” buttons and the mat and frame drop down list on the Photographic Print Details Pages.  For a more detailed explanation of the fine art giclee printing, matting and framing materials used see these respective sections below.

Fine Art Photography Computer Screen Image Quality

Please note that computer monitor photographic images have much lower resolution and often have slight color differences from the actual fine art photographs.  The fine art photographs you are viewing are at 72 dpi (dots per inch) versus 2880 dpi for the actual giclee' photographic print.   Further, in order to reduce the time it takes for photographic images to appear on your computer screen, all photos are highly compressed to reduce their size. These differences means the actual fine art photograph prints show much greater detail, contrast, sharpness, tonal range, and color saturation than their screen counterparts.  In addition, computer monitors are often calibrated differently and can therefore introduce differences in brightness, contrast and color.  While Duane has made every effort to present fine art photographs that represent the final art prints well, you will find the actual art prints even more appealing – maybe jaw-droppingly so.  If you are not satisfied with any art print you purchase, please return the art print for a refund. Please see the fine art print satisfaction guarantee policy below for more details.

What is Photographic Giclee' Art on Paper?

The giclée process Arete' Art uses, starts with a color photograph negative or transparency. The fine art photographs are then converted into a high-resolution digital file. Next the file is optimized for tonal range, dodging and burning-in of highlights and shadows, sharpness, and color. Photographs are output using a state-of-the-art printer in which hundreds of fine nozzles spray microscopic droplets of pigment with extreme precision onto expensive, archival photographic art paper.

The archival fine art photography papers are selected not only for their exemplary image stability, but also for the ability to produce extremely rich color and detail faithful to the original color photographs. With proper care, the pigment and paper combinations used, are rated to last at least 75 years without noticeable fading.

Fine Art Photography Conservation Framing

Our Fine Art Photography Conservation Framing Techniques ensure the quality, life and financial value of all art prints are preserved. Acid free matting and framing materials including acrylic glazing help to help prevent discoloration and color fading of art prints over time. In contrast, offset press produced posters, “poster prints” other so called "art prints" and other prints with acidic, non-preservation grade materials can degrade quickly.

Should you ever wish to re-mat or re-frame your Arete' Art color photographs, you can easily remove them from the current mounting materials with no damage to the art print.

What Fine Art Photograpy Conservation Techniques and Materials Does Arete' Art use?

Fine Art Print Paper and Pigments: Arete' Art uses extremely light stable pigments. Acid free, coated papers are combined with the pigments to produce rich and very long-lived photographic art prints. With proper care, the pigment and art paper combinations used, are tested and rated to last over 75 years without noticeable fading by the Wilhelm Institute.

Fine Art Photography Mats : Arete Art uses Crescent Alpha-Cellulose Matboard for all fine art prints. These mats are manufactured using chemically buffered wood pulp fibers and are acid-free and lignin-free. They meet conservation standards set by the Fine Art Care and Treatment Standards organization (F.A.C.T.S.).

Fine Art Photography Mounting : All fine art photographic art prints are perimeter mounted with conservation quality acid-free paper adhesive tape. The art print and mounting strips are attached to the acid-free backing board in what is called a T-mount.

Fine Art Photography Glazing : Arete' Art uses expensive, high-end acrylic glazing for all framed art prints. This glazing is thicker and stronger than normally used glazing and adds value and structural integrity to the art piece. It weighs less than glass and is chemical and shatter resistant to protect artwork during shipment and cleaning.

Extra Touches : Fine art photograph prints are sealed around the edge of the glazing, mat, art print, and mount board package to keep out atmospheric pollutants, dust and insects.  This adds greatly to the archival life of the fine art photographs.

The photographic images come ready to hang with the attached high-quality hanging wire and hardware. Each fine art photograph comes with a certificate of authenticity that is mounted on the back.

How do I care for my Arete' Art Photographs?

Caring for your Arete' Art photographic prints is mostly about choosing a good location to hang them. The main enemies of all types of artwork are; direct sunlight/UV radiation, air pollutants, heat and humidity. Avoid these as much as possible and your fine art prints should remain vibrantly colorful for many, many decades. Arete' Art seals the edges of the fine art photography glazing, mat, art print and mount board package to help keep out contaminants. Additionally, the moisture barrier of the acrylic glazing and mount board adds greatly to your art print’s protection.

How do I Care for the Clear Acrylic Glazing Used in the Fine Art Photograph Framing?

Maintaining the optical clarity of your high quality acrylic glazing is easy:

  • First, dust the frame and Acrylic Pane with a blast of air, a bunched up dry, soft rag or soft camel-haired brush (art and drafting stores), to remove surface dust.
  • Second, apply a mild soap solution or acrylic cleaner to moisten a separate, clean, soft rag.
  • It is not recommended to use abrasive soaps or glass cleaners containing ammonia or alcohol.
  • Dry with a bunched up, soft, lint-free rag.

What are the Sizes of Fine Art Photographic Prints, Mats, Frames and Groups?

Arete' Art offers three sizes of photo art prints along with fine art photographing groupings to enhance any wall space, from an intimate bath to a large living room or office board room.

Our fine art mat borders and framing are oversized to enhance the presentation and presence of the fine art photograph pieces. Typical mat borders are 5 inches wide. To make it easier for you to select art prints that fit into your wall art spaces, image size, matted/framed size and overall grouped dimensions are noted in the print details pages for each wall art print.

Each of the dimensions listed is based on the finished size for the mat, the average outside frame dimensions or the overall space a group of finished photographs occupies on a wall. Note that due to the varying dimensions of each individual art print and the spacing between them, these dimensions can vary.
